Flogenic water purification system contains slow-dissolving tablets similar to Aquatabs®, the world’s leading water purification tablets. A small amount of chlorine dissolves as water passes through the device adding the right amount to keep your pipework clean and to make the water safe for drinking and bathing. Flogenic water treatment system is US EPA approved for drinking water.
Flogenic water disinfection system adds 1-2 ppm of chlorine to water in normal operation. This is comfortably above the minimum requirement for safe water (0.2 ppm) and below the WHO recommended maximum of 5 ppm for long term drinking water use.
Flogenic water purification system will treat approximately 90,000 litres of water (90 m³) giving you safer drinking water.
Flogenic water water treatment system is see-through. When you can no longer see tablets in the unit replace it. If you do not use much water you should replace the Flogenic every year. You may use the Medentech chlorine test strips (0-5 ppm) to determine when Flogenic needs replacing.
Using Flogenic water purification system delivers safe water at just €0.72 per m³ ( 1000 litres) making it a low cost water disinfection system. The Irish water meter charge will be €3.70 per m³ for water and wastewater treatment.
Flogenic water disinfection system is made from food grade polypropylene (recycle number 5) and can be recycled the same as polypropylene packaging (e.g. ketchup bottles).
To fit Flogenic you have to replace the ball cock in your attic tank with the Flogenic float valve.
Flogenic water purification system can only be used where water flows into a tank at the point of discharge. It is well suited to fitting on a ball cock valve.
There are several ways. We recommend that you treat the water discharging into the open tank in your attic. The water should be pumped from your rainwater storage tank using a pump with a pressurised tank. Water flows through Flogenic as it enters the attic tank. If you are also connected to a municipal water supply, you should also continue to have a second ball cock connected to your regular water supply with the float activating at a level lower in the tank than the Flogenic float valve. When you have no harvested rainwater your tank will be filled with regular water.
In addition to being free, rainwater is naturally soft which makes it much more suitable for clothes washing and bathing. You will not get any lime scale build-up.
Flogenic water purification system is approved by the US EPA (registration number 71847-5). Flogenic is approved by NSF International, an organisation whose mission is to protect and improve global human health. NSF is an independent, accredited organization, which tests, audits and certifies products and systems for water treatment. Flogenic has been tested in accordance with UK WRAS standard and approval by WRAS for use connected to the water system in UK is due in July 2015.
Flogenic is constructed with raw materials that are approved for use in manufacture of food contact or drinking water equipment. Flogenic is approved by US EPA and by NSF International for treating drinking water (see above). It uses the same chemistry as Aquatabs, our world leading water purification tablet that has been relied upon for 25 years to make water safe to drink in emergencies
Rainwater is collected from gutters and may contain dirt and dust blown onto the roof and bird faecal matter. Just look how black your gutters are. Rodents may also walk along your roof. Untreated rainwater can potentially cause grave harm to you and your family.
Some rainwater harvesting and domestic water treatments systems use UV lamps. UV systems kill micro-organisms in the water that flows through. However, they provide no residual protection against re-contamination. The residual protection given by Flogenic will prevent water being recontaminated. It will remove biofilm from pipework and tanks and prevent its formation. It will provide protection in hot water systems against Legionella. Often the lamps blow in UV systems and you may not be aware of it.
You should not adjust the Flogenic for treating rainwater and well water for domestic use. Adjustment is only necessary for treating surface waters or for treating water for applications such as farm water.
Flogenic treats water flowing through. It does not require any electricity.
Over 20% of private well water is contaminated with faecal coliforms (E. coli). In 2004 just 78.1% of samples tested were free of E. coli. Four counties in Ireland (Sligo, Donegal, Leitrim and Kerry) had fewer than 60% of well water samples free of E. coli. Some strains of E. coli (VTEC - Verocytotoxigenic Escherichia coli) can cause serious diseases such as Haemolytic uremic syndrome that causes kidney failure in about 10 children in Ireland each year. Environmental authorities have guidelines to check your well water and make sure it is safe. If coliforms are detected you need effective water treatment.
